Ads of the Past - Did They Really Say That?

Advertisements these days do a good job at selling their product or company. Others however may make you question, where in the world did they come up with the idea? But they don't compare to the advertisements that ran in the past. For example, the advertisement about tape worms being food to lose weight would not be accepted in today's community. Another advertisement that people today would question is the ad selling cigarettes by putting a picture of a doctor smoking that brand of cigarettes. I find this really inappropriate because smoking is not at all healthy and I'm sure that the doctor in the picture knows this as well.

The next ad is also an inappropriate advertisement selling cigarettes. The ad says that if a man blows smoke into a woman's face, that woman will be attracted to the guy and follow him everywhere. There are two things wrong with this advertisement. First of all, it is sexist because it's portraying the woman like some stray dog that's going to follow the guy everywhere just because he blew smoke in her face. Second of all, HE'S KILLING HER WITH ALL THAT SMOKE! That's all I have to say about that.

In the end, all of these advertisements are saying the same message. Use their product and you'll be accepted in the society and you will feel great about yourself. I don't know what kind of society would accept unhealthy, dying people but I definitely would not want to be in it and I'm sure that the people who used these products don't feel that great about themselves now. Here are some other advertisements that really did run in the past.
